Mayor of Finike, Mustafa Geyikçi, issued a message on the occasion of the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.

May 19 is the turning point of our struggle for independence

In his message, Mayor Geyikçi stated that May 19, 1919, was a turning point in the Turkish nation's struggle for independence and expressed the following:

“May 19 is not just a date, but the most resolute step taken on the path to independence by a nation that refuses captivity. The torch of independence, ignited by the founder of our Republic, Great Leader and eternal Commander-in-Chief Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk upon his arrival in Samsun, grew with our nation’s faith, courage, and determination to struggle, entrusting us with a free and independent homeland.

Today, our greatest duty is to protect this heritage, to preserve the values of our Republic, and to march resolutely on the path of contemporary civilization shown by Atatürk. The greatest strength of this march is our youth. Because youth is the hope, energy, and future of this country.

We attach great importance to our youth being closely engaged with culture, art, sports, science, and production

As Finike Municipality, we place great importance on a city life where our youth is intertwined with culture, art, sports, science, and production. We will continue to work for a Finike where our youth can grow their dreams, express themselves freely, and look to the future with confidence.

In the spirit of May 19, there is independence, there is hope, and there is youth. Keeping this spirit alive and carrying our Republic to a stronger tomorrow with democracy, law, justice, peace, and tranquility is our common responsibility.

With these thoughts and feelings, I commemorate with mercy, gratitude, and respect the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, all our martyrs, and veterans, and I congratulate our youth and citizens on the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.”
